Pink and Gold Graduation Party Ideas
With three boys in the house, you know what I don’t get a lot of? Pink. And gold. And glitter and sparkly things. So when I saw this invitation on Tiny Prints, I knew I wanted to use it as inspiration for a pink and gold graduation party.
Seriously, so pretty. Pink and gold and sparkly and not a football, dinosaur, dump truck or baseball in sight. In other words, the exact opposite of what I usually deal with on a daily basis.
I had so, so much fun creating this party. I was in heaven. And the best part is, I made almost all of the decorations myself.
I will be doing a bunch of posts over the next few weeks going into more detail about exactly how I did a lot of the treats and decorations, but I wanted to give you a quick overview here.
My two best friends when I was creating this party were gold paint and glitter.
Gold Glitter Year Numbers
I created the glittery 2014 with just simple inexpensive wooden numbers from Michael’s. To make them stand up, I bought 4 small wooden ovals, and hot glued the numbers to them. A coat of glue and glitter later, and they reach a whole new level of fancy pants.
Gold Glitter Mason Jars
I love mixing fancy with casual, which is why I love the way these gold-and-glitter Mason jars turned out. Filled with small pink roses, they look so pretty, but still laid-back. If you didn’t want the casual aspect of these, you could always use smooth-sided Mason jars or small glass vases.
To make them, I just painted the entire Mason jar with gold liquid leaf. Once that was dry, I painted the bottom 1/3 with Mod Podge and sprinkled it with glitter.
Drink Station
I also used 1/2 pint Mason jars to serve up some raspberry lemonade (pink again!). I created the swizzle sticks (mostly so that I could use the word “swizzle”) by just hot gluing a gold pom-pom onto a skewer. The pink and gold paper straws are another pretty, but casual, touch.
Paper Decorations
The paper medallion on the wall is made from gold striped wrapping paper from Target, while the pink and gold flowers are just tissue paper puffs.
Easy Snacks
The pretzel rods are dipped in pink and white candy melts and sprinkled with gold sugar and pink and white candy pearls. I found the container in the Dollar Spot at Target. It used to be white until it met up with my old friend gold spray paint.
Some store-bought sugar cookies also got fanci-fied with some pink candy melts and gold sugar.
Even the cake pops (which aren’t actually even cake pops at all — you won’t believe what they really are — click here to find out and get the full instructions!) got dressed up for the party with some shimmer dust and edible gold stars.
Easy Cake Idea
I once again used one of my favorite tricks of decorating a store-bought cake; this time with some fun pink shimmery gumballs.
Cake Stand
As for the cake stand, can you believe that (and the stand I used for the pink tissue paper puff!) started its life as a glass candlestick and plate from the Dollar Store? (a full tutorialfor that can be found here!)
A thrift-store glass bowl got a whole new life when I attached it to a candlestick (another thrift store find!) and painted it with liquid gold leaf.
Guest Book Alternative
In lieu of a guest book, I found a large photo mat at the craft store and popped it into a thrift-store frame. Leave a Sharpie or chalk marker next to it and guests can share their thoughts, best wishes and words of wisdom.
So you can see, even though the thought of planning a graduation party can be daunting, it doesn’t have to be a scary — or crazy expensive — endeavor.
