Who makes Cadet lawn mowers? ›

If your mower suddenly stops moving forward or backward, the problem is usually related to your transmission drive belt. If your drive belt becomes too loose, worn, or off of one of your pulleys, this problem will suddenly occur.

There may be old or bad fuel in the carburetor float bowl. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and prevent the engine from starting. If the carburetor is clogged, try cleaning it with carburetor cleaner.

The blades and/or spindles could be worn or out of balance. There may be bent, damaged, or disconnected deck hangers that would require service.

Other lawn care experts and reviewers seem to think the Cub Cadet riding mower is better for thicker grass, though some of the gardeners we spoke to said the Husqvarna can tackle any grass length or thickness, too.

If your riding lawn mower won't move, the problem could be a broken ground drive belt. If the riding mower is slow and sluggish, the ground drive belt could be so worn that it slips. Either way, follow the steps in this repair guide and video to replace the ground drive belt on your lawn tractor.

As per observation, lawn mowers cut better when they are moved in the reverse direction instead of forward. It is because of the reverse movement of the blades that continue to spin unless the grass is sliced perfectly.

Cub Cadet Lawn Mower PTO Switch

If the switch is defective, it may not supply power to the PTO clutch. As a result, the clutch won't engage, and the lawn mower blades won't rotate. To determine if the switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the PTO switch is defective, replace it.

Check the Battery

If it measures less than 12 volts, the battery is weak or dead and you've likely found the problem. Try recharging the battery using a charger. Or, you can use jumper cables to jump-start a riding lawn mower that uses a 12-volt battery.

Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn't work, you might need a new fuel filter.

Sharpening or replacing the mower blades is also the answer if grass tips look ragged or tattered instead of cleanly cut. Blade vibration also causes an uneven cut. To eliminate vibration, replace unbalanced blades and worn mandrels. Replace a worn blade belt because a worn belt won't spin the blades correctly.

One of the main reasons your lawn mower might be cutting unevenly is due to deck misalignment, which can happen over time from regular use. This misalignment may occur if your mower suffers from hard knocks or tampering with the deck's adjustment. Misalignment can cause the deck to tilt, resulting in an uneven cut.

The exception may be some Cub Cadet, Husqvarna and John Deere lawn tractors intended for commercial use, which are designed to go for 400-500 hours. Many of these higher-end mowers have hour meters that track their usage. If you're considering buying a used machine, look for these warning signs.
